GREYWALK
In 2014, major world governments hosted multiple scientific experiments over the course of the year. Five of these experiments were hosted in Berlin, Germany. Each experiment consisted of about 50-100 volunteers, with the majority of the volunteers being between the ages of 21 and 28. These volunteers believed they were participating in local vaccine studies for nearby medical universities, and that was all they were told. As it is with most things, that was simply a cover. The governments were trying to test out a sort of...resistance vaccine, though it was more of a gene then a vaccine, since they planned to only have to inject a person with the drug once in their lifetime. They believed that the worst that could happen was the drug would be non responsive, and the volunteers would not notice any changes.
With most sorts of stories like these, the government messed up. A bit majorly. No one knows exactly how it happened, or what was in the drug that caused it to happen, but it was not a drug to improve a person's resistance to certain things. If anything, you could say that the drug added some sort of modification gene to the volunteers. The government injected volunteers with the test drug over the course of one week per experiment, and then the volunteers were released to their normal lives. The majority of the volunteers for the 'studies' became sick between two to three weeks after the experiments. Symptoms were that of a normal stomach or flu bug, so many didn't think much of it since most were not in contact with each other. After the symptoms cleared up and they recovered, those volunteers seemed to have a bit better immunity to things such as common colds and coughs, but that was all.
Life goes on; these volunteers, 487 or so in all (in Berlin), went on with their lives and mingled and dated and got married and the majority had a kid or few. Most probably forgot about the study that they had done back in their early to mid twenties for some medical research. They were thankful for being a bit resistant to common sicknesses, but they brushed it off simple luck of the draw.
